Information for Skiers
Belonging to a club is the best way of becoming involved with skiing. Not only is it the most cost effective and enjoyable method of meeting fellow skiers, your standard of skiing will improve, and you will gain more from your days on the snow.
Facilities
The Rotorua Tramping and Skiing Club's snow activities are centred around the
ski lodge located on Mt Ruapehu, just 7 minutes walk from the Top of the Bruce.
Facilities include:
- 32 bunks divided into rooms of four or five
- modern bathroom facilities
- fully commercial kitchen
- large open plan lounge
- separate dining room
- ski storage in the basement
- a drying room for boots and ski gear
The club also owns two
6-bed chalets at Kirk St, National Park. Both are available to members throughout the year. These are self-catering, but contain a fully-equipped kitchen.
All bookings for the lodge are made via our website. The chalets must be booked through the booking officer. To view the current lodge and chalet fees

Lodge Operation
The lodge opens for the winter when the Whakapapa ski field opens for skiing, and remains open until the ski lifts close for the summer, subject to snow conditions and bookings.
It is open for mid-week use under the control of a custodian, and on weekends a lodge leader is appointed by the booking officer.
Everyone staying at the lodge is expected to do a duty each day, either helping with meal preparation or cleaning. Cooking is the responsibility of the Custodian, but you may be rostered to help if the Lodge is full. Duties are rostered by the custodian or lodge leader. The lodge operates on a fully catered basis except for lunches. A weekend booking includes light meal on Friday night, breakfast on Saturday and Sunday and dinner on Saturday night. A weekend booking does not include a meal on Sunday nights.
There are a limited number of lockers available in the lodge where members can leave items such as bedding or skis/snowboards depending on size of locker. There are also lockable ski and snowboard racks available for use during the season. To request a locker contact the
Ski Captain.
Chalet Operation
Both chalets are available all year round through the booking officer. Both chalets have linen supplied and are cleaned after your stay. A list of what is and is not supplied in the chalets can be found on
here. The chalets must be left clean and tidy when you depart.
Ski Club Events
The club is involved in interclub ski racing competitions held each season on the mountain. If you would be interested in racing please contact the
Ski Captain to register your interest. The main ski races are listed on the
Events page. During the season, the club holds its own ski/snowboard races for all age groups. The course is set so that all skiers are able to participate & finish. A prize giving dinner is held at the lodge in the evening - a popular weekend for members. The dates for the 2022 Club Race weekend have been set and are on the
Events page. Note these in your diary!
Work Parties
Workparty weekends take place prior to the start of the ski season, and all senior and tertiary skiers are expected to attend one each year. If you take part in any organised workparty, your workparty levy is refunded to your accommodation account. Workparties not only ensure that our assets stay in good condition, they are lots of fun, and are a great way to meet other club members and to find out how the lodge system works.
